Alicia, Beth, And Abbie: A Chain Of Hope
Alicia, Beth, And Abbie: A Chain Of Hope
Alicia asked to see a chaplain, weighed down by chaos, bad decisions, and the consequences of her past. In that tiny concrete-block room she poured out her story, then recommitted her life to Christ, exchanging fear and confusion for the steady peace of God’s forgiveness and a fresh start.
As she grew, Alicia devoured God’s Word, completed a 12 step, Bible based recovery study, and began to shine with a quiet boldness that others in the jail could not ignore.
Beth first appeared distant and withdrawn, killing time with games during Bible study while silently wondering if anyone cared what would happen when she was released.
Week after week, Alicia prayed specifically for Beth, and one day Beth wrote a simple plea on a prayer slip: she needed a safe place and a new direction when her release date came.
God answered through the ministry’s prayer and support network, and Beth soon found not only practical help but living faith; she trusted Christ, and her hard, guarded demeanor was replaced by a soft, joyful spirit that other women noticed immediately.
When Abbie, a hurting teenager, was moved into Alicia and Beth’s crowded cell, depression and fear clung to her as she lay on a thin mattress on the floor.
The two women welcomed her, shared Scripture, and gently urged her to join the pre-lesson Bible reading, showing her by their own changed lives that hope was real even behind bars.
As Abbie listened, the Holy Spirit broke through her despair; she chose to put her faith in Christ, and by the end of that day she was sitting at the narrow table with Alicia and Beth, smiling through tears as she opened the Bible for herself.
